The Space Between Workouts

The conversation around adaptive athletics often focuses on training and competition. But the real story? It happens in the spaces between – the daily moments where movement meets reality.

Morning Reality Check

Every morning starts with a series of decisions that most take for granted. As an adaptive athlete, my day begins with what I call the "morning movement assessment":

  • How's the fit today?

  • What activities are ahead?

  • What adaptations might I need?

These aren't complaints – they're reality checks that shape how I approach each day's movement journey.

The Office Athlete

Try this: spend eight hours at a desk, then transition straight to training. Now add prosthetic management to that equation. This is where innovation happens by necessity.

What I've learned:

  • Movement isn't just about exercise

  • Comfort changes throughout the day

  • Small adaptations make big differences

  • Preparation prevents challenges

The Transition Game

The spaces between activities often present the biggest challenges. It's not just about changing clothes – it's about managing:

  • Temperature changes

  • Activity transitions

  • Device adjustments

  • Comfort needs

Evening Evolution

By day's end, movement needs change again. Recovery isn't just about rest – it's about preparing for tomorrow's movements while taking care of today's needs.

Looking Forward

These daily realities aren't limitations – they're opportunities for innovation. Each challenge leads to a new solution, each solution leads to better movement.
